“You can plan every minute of every day when you travel, and still have relatively no idea what you’re up against.  Bad weather, lost luggage, your Airbnb is actually a cave without a shower.  Did you guys know the Louvre is closed on Tuesdays?  But it’s not always bad things; I’ve had my share of magical experiences that were completely unplanned while traveling.  That is undeniably the best part.  Expect the unexpected is probably my number one advice to anyone looking to travel for long periods of time.  I know, it sounds horribly cliché, but it’s true.

The same can be said for film photography. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shot a roll, so excited to see the photos, only to have the darkroom produce blank images.  Then, when I got more of my shit together and learned what I was doing, I started to get other unexpected results; light leaks, double exposures, the whole thing.  That’s what I love most about traveling with film.  I think I know what I'm about to get, but life always has something else planned for me.  I’m learning to run with it.“
